but how far have the pictures travelled before they reach my tv

It depends on where you live and what kind of equipment you broadcaster is using. Most companies use satellite, so let’s talk about that. The TV truck will beam their picture to a geostationary satellite about 26,000 up. The satellite beams the picture back to the TV studio. From there it might go straight to your local transmitter by microwave or it might get sent back to another satellite for distribution to cable.

In other words – the pictures have to go a really long way!
